The Feed In Tariff was brought in by the Government to help increase the level of renewable energy in the UK.
Feed-In Tariffs (also known as FITs) are part of the Clean Energy Cashback Scheme, which pays people for creating their own "green electricity".
There is also a Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme, for heating.
The Main Benefits
Generating your own electricity means you will have to buy much less back from your energy suppliers, so your electricity bills will reduce - often dramatically.
By being more energy efficient, the less electricity you use yourself, the more you can sell back to the national grid for which you will receive extra payment.
Electricity bills have seen a rise in recent years and it is expected that they could rise by a further 60%. This will have far less impact on renewable energy customers.
